Anaphora
Queer Pianist- Composer Filippo Deorsola presents Anaphora, a trio that “switches and mixes several genres and rhythms in an incredibly mastered and enjoyable way” [Best of Jazz, US]. With their new album [Bloom], Anaphora brews a kaleidoscopic musical potion centred around the preparation of the piano with wooden objects altering the sound of the instrument. A condensate of percussive and textural influences from Balinese gamelan where driven themes and hypnotic grooves intertwine with subtlety. A polyphonic exercise in dreaming out sounds and sounding out dreams, [Bloom] reveals itself to be a singularly athletic hybrid between jazz and non-European rhythmic traditions. An athletic criss-cross between jazz and non-european musical traditions centered around wood-based piano preparation, Anaphora explores the power within the collective process of dreaming out sounds and sounding out dreams. A genre and gender-free hybrid, the album [Bloom] creates a colourful textural soundscape where techno-reminiscent urban grooves bond with cyclical rhythmic machineries and hypnotic melodies.

The Baptiste Stanek 5tet is a band with a distinctly international identity, bringing together five musicians from diverse cultures and musical backgrounds. Founded around tenor saxophonist and bass clarinetist Baptiste Stanek, the quintet features Ben Van Gelder on alto saxophone, Wes Georgiev on piano, Thiago Duarte on double bass, and Juan Ibarra on drums.In June 2024, the group recorded their debut album, "Basel Smash", under the LOUMI Records label.

Benedikt Jäckle
Benedikt Jäckle is a German saxophonist, composer and band leader. Growing up in the south of Germany, he started taking saxophone lessons at the age of 7. When he was 15 years old, he became a member of the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate, and it was there that the idea of becoming a professional musician began to take shape. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim, where he learned from saxophonists Prof. Jürgen Seefelder, Wanja Slavin and Ben Kraef, and completed his bachelor’s degree in autumn 2020. Benedikt regularly performs in Germany and across Europe and has also had the opportunity to play several times in North and South America. His mission is to create a sound with a profound spiritual and emotional impact.

Brodie Jarvie
As one of the freshest and most driving forces on the Scottish Jazz scene today, Brodie has shown his strengths as a bass player, bandleader and a composer on multiple occasions. Through the years he has worked and recorded with many esteemed musicians including Tommy Smith, The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Texas and his own projects. Although known for his big, yet intimate sound, versatility and creative curiosity, Brodie’s fine sensitivity to the fibres of music makes him as much a grounding force on the bass as an independent voice in any ensemble. His music conjures a feeling of concentric shapes, designed for melodic and harmonic explorations, for both the audience and the band members. The well- contoured play between tension and release puts the music in a constant momentum, drawing the listener closer to the music. Brodie’s compositions can be as an anthem of a Celtic fairyland, two-feet-on-the-ground ideas combined with an equal portion of mystique and intrigue. Whilst gaining his masters degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Brodie was able to work with and learn from some of the leading European jazz musicians around today including, but not limited to Jasper Blom, Reinier Baas, Ben van Gelder, Joris Roelofs and Ernst Glerum. It was here that he was able to perform constantly in some of The Netherlands many jazz festivals (North Sea Jazz Festival, Amsterdam Jazz Fest, Amersfoort Jazz Festival) and was involved in two separate groups who made it to the final of the prestigious competition, ‘Keep and Eye’ which is held in The Bimhuis, Amsterdam every year. This is also where he formed his current Quintet of former peers and classmates who together went on to record one studio album and one live E.P before his studies concluded and Brodie moved back to Glasgow, Scotland where he lives currently. Now in Glasgow, Brodie is one of the most in demand bass players sought after by many musicians on the Scottish Jazz scene. He is a permanent member of the Brian Molley Quartet who have been selected for the prestigious ‘Made in Scotland’ program at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in 2019 travelled to India to perform at Jazz festivals in Jodhpur and Madras. He is a member of piano player Paul Harrison’s band, ‘Act Shy’, and also writes and arranges for his own projects ‘Fine Men With Foul Tongues’ and ‘Deceptive Lizard’

Cosmic Express Quintet
Cosmic Express Quintet releases their debut album “Våren är Vår” on vinyl on the 13th of October. Ima Baeza Bilgin is the composer and bandleader of the quintet that with powerful melodies and a great sensitivity for improvisation sets the base from which the band can elevate from. The compositions in “Våren är Vår” search the spot where they can be deeply rooted in an experience, emotion or thought and yet have the space to renew itself through unpredictable interplay. The personal meets the collective and by doing so transforms itself like an active memory. The emotional dynamics are big. Be it joy, frustration, or melancholy. “Ballad till dem jag älskar” captures the feeling of gratitude for love and being loved, written shortly before a family reunion after being apart. “Disco på tåget” is ‘only’ a happy song with a lot of raw energy. Having the liberating feeling of when music is just music and letting go of constant moralizing for a while. The title tracks “Våren är Vår” and “Our Burning House” are opposite views on the climate crisis, which could be summed up as hopeful and disappointedly angry. Cosmic Express Quintet’s style and sound were found during a year when all band members were living together in a little village in Sweden, sharing their both personal and musical life. Except for preparing for the release tour, the band is now exploring new directions to go, seeing a future with an even more open relationship with other genres. Ima plays with many well-established artists such as Sara Parkman and Moonica Mac, in a wide range of genres, such as Indie-folk Pop and Hip-Hop. These experiences together with close connections to Swedish, Turkish, and Chilean culture give her a colorful background and a unique and open approach to music. All in all, “Våren är Vår” by Cosmic Express Quintet is a fresh and impactful album, played by five upcoming talents from the Swedish jazz scene.

Fuensanta is a singer, double bassist, composer, improviser & multidisciplinary artist born in the water forest of Veracruz [Mexico] and based in Amsterdam. Her music holds rare and simple poetry to be a sincere crystal that helps open a surreal vision over the things in the world. Fuensanta's main projects are Fuensanta & Ensamble Grande, her trio with Marta Arpini & Līva Dumpe, and Perselí. Currently artist in residence (2021-2023) at BIMHUIS for a collaboration in support of her projects in music, poetry, illustration & photography, and dance. First photo exhibition Amancio at BIMHUIS (summer 2022). Fuensanta Ensamble Grande live album re-released amongst best 2022 albums by European Jazz Network. Debut album of collective trio Perselí released in September 2022 through Minaret Records, Los Angeles based independent jazz label. Born in 1995 in Tlalnelhuayocan. Grew up to a dancer & choreographer mother, radio producer & choir singer father, and two sisters in a household with books, contemporary music and Latin American folklore. Was a dancer until age 13, when she decided to be a singer for life after first singing lesson. Started through private classes with voice ensembles & percussion. Then studied vocals, piano and double bass at JazzUV in Xalapa (Veracruz) and theater & Son Jarocho (folkloric music of Veracruz) in high school. Moved to The Netherlands in 2015 to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, from which she graduated summa cum laude in 2019 in a recital with her Ensamble Grande, that became first live album. She debuted her compositions in Europe at Prinses Christina Jazz Concours in 2016, with 1st place & and an invitation to play with her quintet at North Sea Jazz, also was Jóvenes Creadores national grant for young composers in Mexico in 2018. Played as bandleader & solo around Europe, as well as collaborations in improvised music & interdisciplinary projects as a musician and poet. Fuensanta collaborates with artists such as Louis Cole, Han Bennink, Ben van Gelder, Genevieve Artadi, Reinier Baas, Aaron Parks, Sun Mi Hong, Tineke Postma, Ben Wendel, Kit Downes, Sanem Kalfa, Teis Semey, Joris Roelofs, Nawras Altaky & Magalí Datzira.

Iago Fernández
Iago Fernández is a drummer who plays and composes as if he were writing poetry. No wonder the Galician-born musician is called a "drum poet", especially since, in addition to his award-winning drumming, he actually writes poems and paints colorful visual worlds. In this artistic manifestation, Fernández explores his inner self and deals with the essence of his psyche. A balancing act between sun and ocean, light and dark, equally audible in the compositions of the Swiss by choice. His spectrum ranges from jazz music to Radiohead, from classical music to popular music from Brazil, Portugal and Galicia, recorded on six albums with collaborators such as Mark Turner, Yumi Ito, Joris Roelofs, Reinier Elizarde "El Negrón", Enrique Oliver and André Fernandes, among others. Since an early age, Iago Fernandez has performed regularly at festivals and clubs in America, Asia and throughout Europe, especially in Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Portugal. He has performed with artists such as Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Lionel Loueke, Perico Sambeat, Jesse van Ruller, Jorge Rossy, Steve Nelson and many others. Fernández can also be heard on more than 50 albums, six of them as bandleader and composer: "Agromando" (2011), "Acougo" (2015), "Brisa" (2016), "Acougo Live" (2020), "Luzada" (2022) and "Suite Natural" (2024). Other projects currently include Yumi Ito, WIZ, Iannis Obiols, Xan Campos, Fernando Brox Quintet, Álvaro Ocón, and Martin Theurillat, among others.

This music is (in intent) an amalgamation of my influences, expressed in a traditional acoustic context. Max Agnas
Already at the age of twelve Max Agnas received ”The Fasching soloist prize”, being the youngest ever to receive the prize. The success has continued and now he has five published albums and played several Europe-wide tours. Max’s compositions are of an exploring kind; he finds surprising, elegant and striking ways to express himself within traditional frameworks. You’ll find captivating and atmospheric ballads next to rhythmical tunes with jingle-like melodies, more often than not with a twist that puts everything into a new light. Although it’s paradoxical to say about a twenty-year-old, Max playing sounds remarkably refined and mature. Having the quality of very often saying more with less and always letting the music, as opposed to technique or ego, dictate what musical decisions are made.

Max Liebenberg
Max Liebenberg is a drummer and composer based in Basel, originally from Johannesburg. He started out on drums and violin at a young age and spent his early years moving through very different musical worlds — from progressive metal and hip-hop to orchestras and live drum & bass. When he moved to Basel at 22, his focus shifted fully toward jazz and improvised music. The city’s open, collaborative scene stuck with him, and over time it became home. His project Max with Snacks, formed in 2022, is where a lot of that journey comes together. The music feels playful, curious, and sometimes a bit bouncy, but there’s also a reflective side to it. The album grew out of a simple idea: bring together the different musical influences that shaped him and record them with people he actually feels connected to. Most of the band are close friends and regular collaborators from the Basel scene — musicians like Charley Rose, Fernando Brox, Iannis Obiols, and Nadav Erlich — and that shows in how naturally the music moves. The process of making the album marked a shift for him. After finishing jazz school, it was the first time he allowed himself to write without overthinking or trying to meet expectations. That freedom comes through in the music — it feels open, personal, and sometimes a bit raw in a good way. Some pieces grew from very simple ideas, like a bass line or a rhythmic concept, and developed through collaboration. Others came from more structured experiments, like using interval systems or rhythmic patterns to generate material, only to strip things back again later. As a composer, he’s less interested in control and more in creating space. The tunes have a clear identity, but they’re built so the musicians can shape them in their own way. There’s always a sense of narrative, but it’s shared — not imposed. In the end, the album lands somewhere between intention and play. It’s not trying to prove anything, it’s more like a space you step into.

Three unique voices, three compositions each och three guest musicians. That's the building blocks of OHOJ:s debut album 'OHOJ SAYS HELLO'. The music is composed and interpreted with free rein and most song ideas originate from biographical experiences. New musical expressions get explored tastefully, often but not always with clear traces from the jazz tradition. Song titles such as 'Lazy Luke' and 'För Snäll' ('Too nice') already gives a feeling of the relaxed and down-to-earth feeling of the album. There is an unabridged focus on the musicality and interplay. The young trio presents a mature approach, free from ego-driven decisions. The mood and the form get built together in long arcs. The album also has a warm and embracing feeling, with a couple of explosions such as in the culmination of 'Kraaiennest'. The sound manages to be intimate and open at the same time letting the playfulness and the joy of improvisation come across expressively. With this colorful album OHOJ says hello to the world.

Ori Jacobson
Berlin based and Tel Aviv born Jazz saxophonist Ori Jacobson is known for his broad compositional style touching upon contemporary Jazz, Arabic and Jewish influences. He has performed alongside artists like Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Susana Baca, and appeared on major stages including North Sea Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival. "The concept of the album is based on my life story - to bridge the worlds of Jazz, Arabic and Jewish music while finding an authentic voice as a composer and saxophonist in the current jazz scene." Ori Jacobson Ori is the grandson of Egyptian and German- Jewish refugees. His Egyptian family had to go on exile from Alexandria in the 1940’s after being persecuted for being Jewish and his German family had to escape Manheim during the Second World War for the same reasons. The artist’s decision to live in Berlin represents for him the ability to heal the past and move forward into a future of love and understanding The compositions of the album started as an academic research for his Master’s thesis at the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute (Boston, USA), as a way to connect his personal background with his music that was mostly focused on Jazz up to that point. T o do so, Ori studied Egyptian compositions and improvisation with the and diشاھین Simon Shaheend research on Jewish melodies in the Egyptian and Ashkenazi (German/ European) traditions. This research is the basis for the compositions “Fading Bridges”, “The Wanderer” and “Returning”. Aside from studying with Simon Shaheen, Ori was mentored closely with important pillars of modern saxophone playing: Joe Lovano, George Garzone and David Liebman. George Garzone: "When I listen to Ori play, he has a sense of command that attracts attention to the ear of every listener that is checking this fine musician out”. The song “Fading Bridges” was written out of sadness and frustration with the unbearable reality that he had to face as an individual growing up in the Middle East, with years of wars and violence. Through this tough reality, Ori is seeking to create a possibility to see the individual trauma, pain and suffering of people on all sides as a way to connect as humans. But the wish is not to connect only through the common pain, but also through the cultural similarities, the love that every human shares and one universal language that is music. “Fading Bridges” is a prayer for coexistence and understanding and a wish for people to see the similarities more than the differences so our hearts can get closer while letting our fears fade away.

Pull Quartet
PULL’s identity travels from the solemn tones of a morning reverence and through to seemlingly chaotic, high intensity sounds. Loaded with influences from traditional jazz, chamber music, folk music and indie rock. The four members of Pull are constantly writing new music for the band and have been touring around Europe for the past two years. In October 2017, They recorded their second album which consists of thirteen new original tunes and is planned to be released 2018. Quite Vivian
Quite Vivian is a contemporary jazz trio formed in 2023 in Basel by three international musicians: Adele Sauros (tenor & soprano saxophone, vocals – Finland), Wilfried Wilde (guitar – France), and Rajiv Jayaweera (drums – Australia/Sri Lanka). The band was born out of a shared artistic vision during our time together in the Focusyear program at the Jazzcampus Basel. As a bass-less trio, our sound is distinctively open, spacious, and rhythmically fluid. The music is fully original and composed collectively: each of us brings our own voice and cultural background to the repertoire. This results in music that is simple yet powerful, accessible yet intricately crafted – at once fresh, surprising, and emotionally resonant. Our debut album reflects the diversity and unity of our musical languages, shaped by our improvisational interaction and mutual trust. The album also features a special guest appearance by Chris Cheek, one of the most respected voices in contemporary saxophone. The essence of Quite Vivian lies in its collaborative spirit and commitment to making honest, boundary-pushing jazz that invites listeners in. With this project, we aim to contribute a unique and personal voice to the evolving European jazz landscape.

Tabea Kind
Tabea Kind is a versatile bassist, composer, and educator currently based in Cologne. Born in 1999 in Karlsruhe, she discovered her passion for music early on. She pursued her Bachelor's degree in Music Pedagogy in Freiburg (DE), graduating in 2022. During her studies, Tabea broadened her musical horizons with an Erasmus exchange to Bern. Continuing her educational journey, Tabea completed her Master's degree at Jazzcampus in Basel and graduated in 2024. Throughout her academic career, she had the privilege of studying under renowned mentors such as Larry Grenadier, Patrice Moret, Bänz Oester, Filippa Gojo, Dieter Ilg, Jorge Rossy, and other influential figures from the jazz community. Tabea is an active participant in the music scenes of Switzerland and Germany, contributing her playing to various projects. She leads her own trio (“Fragments“, 2024, „Dialogue Poetry“ expected 2026) and collaborates with diverse ensembles including Aerie, Aino Salto, Emmanuelle Bonnet Quartett, Ocell oder RENNER. Her performances have taken her across Europe to renowned festivals and venues. Driven by her passion for music and commitment to her craft, Tabea Kind continues to explore new avenues in bass performance, composition, and music education, enriching both her own artistic journey and the vibrant music communities she engages with. Tabea Kind teaches double bass at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (DE). In 2026 she is awarded the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Award. She also won the ZMF-Jazzprize 2026 and 1st Prize of the International Jazzaward Burghausen (with RENNER).

kapelle17 veröffentlicht nach vierjährigem Bestehen ihr Debutalbum “Die Wolken sind da wo sie immer sind”: texturell und rhythmisch vielfältige Jazzmusik der jungen Generation. Die Band mit Musikern aus Berlin, Köln, Leipzig und New York steht seit vier Jahren gemeinsam auf Bühnen in und um Deutschland. Auf ihrem Debütalbum „Die Wolken sind da wo sie immer sind“ vermischen sich Einflüsse des klassischen Jazz, der improvisierten Avantgarde der 60er-Jahre, New-Wave-Musik und Underground-Hip-Hop in einer Fusion von fünf Persönlichkeiten. Eine kleine Idee wird im Kollektiv zum Song. Die Bandbreite der Kompositionen reicht von polyrhythmischen Grooves über klare Songformen zu dämmernden Landscape-Improvisationen. Seit 2017 geht kapelle17 mit etwa 20 Konzerten im Jahr regelmäßig auf Tour. Highlights waren ein Auftritt auf dem Festival JazzDiscovery in Karlsruhe, eine Finalteilnahme beim Mechelen Jazz Contest 2017 in Belgien, sowie viele weitere Konzerte in kleinen und großen Jazz- und Tanzclubs. Die Band liefert dem Publikum eine frische, aufregende Energie und sorgt mit elektrisierenden Grooves und lebendigem Zusammenspiel für ein abwechslungsreiches Hörerlebnis.
