About

On For Voices and Strings: Live at Paradox, Amsterdam-based drummer and composer Guy Salamon expands his unique musical language into a completely new setting. Recorded in front of a packed audience at Paradox Jazz Club in Tilburg, the album combines the energy of a live performance with detailed ensemble writing, open improvisation, and a broad range of musical influences.

After receiving a special composition assignment from Paradox Jazz Club, Salamon wanted to combine his contemporary jazz background with his deep love of choral, chamber, and folk music. By deciding to work with a completely new band featuring vocal and string musicians, Salamon explores a whole other side of his imaginative world.
Growing up in a musical home, Guy Salamon was exposed to a large spectrum of inputs.

His mother, being a classical singer born in England, raised him on Baroque madrigals and chamber music. His father, on the other hand, born in Peru, brought South American rhythms into the house, while his Hungarian grandmother used to sing him Eastern European folk songs before bedtime. This album is a tribute to all of that, and more.
