About

Iago Fernández invites Jorge Rossy

The album grew from a musical relationship dating back to 2006, when Jorge Rossy became one of Iago Fernández’s most important references as a drummer and a great mentor. The idea was sparked years later by a freely improvised quartet session whose spontaneous, raw expression suggested a different kind of album—one made by letting go of control rather than carefully writing, arranging and practising structured music.

The original idea was simply to meet and improvise as a duo, with several instruments in the same room and without much of a plan: to let their imaginations run wild, listen patiently, and create honestly and without pretensions. Both drummers were completely free to play whatever they imagined. Alongside their main instrument, Jorge played marimba and vibraphone, while Iago played piano and flugelhorn, introducing further melodic and harmonic layers.

Their dialogues remained balanced, shaped by attentive listening and the space they gave each other.

Four guests later joined the duo to record three specific pieces as a sextet, adding diverse soundscapes and dynamics to the album. Paddy Fitzgerald and Jonathan Collin-Bouhon played double bass, Iannis Obiols piano, and Sam Barnett alto saxophone. Five cleansing “double drums” tracks are distributed throughout this four part album. From beginning to end, the music remains free, attentive and searching.
